Shanghai Banking Association (SBA), formerly known as Shanghai Banking Association of Foreign Exchange, was founded on December 22nd, 1992 and renamed in 1998. Established with the approval of Shanghai Administration of Social Organizations and guided by CBRC Shanghai Office, SBA is a professional, non-profit trade association, speaking for banks and other financial institutions in Shanghai. Through textual research, SBA stems from Shanghai Bankers’ Association founded in 1918. 

 

Having been one of the most important industrial and commercialassociations in modern Chinese history, SBA has a time-honored legacy and nowboasts the longest history, most broad-based member types and largestmembership among all local banking self-disciplinary organizations in China. Uptill 31 July 2021, Shanghai Banking Association had 242 member entities, includingpolicy banks, large commercial banks, joint stock commercial banks, urbancommercial banks, rural commercial banks, foreign banks, village banks, commercialbanks’ subsidiaries with licenses in special business areas, trust companies,financial leasing companies, finance companies (under large conglomerates),consumer finance companies, automobile finance companies, asset managementcompanies, foreign banks’ representative offices and other types of bankingfinancial institutions.

 With a focus on four core functions—self-discipline, rights protection, coordination and services—SBA is acting as an effective platform and bridge and providing valuable services to government agencies, member entities and financial service consumers. Our mission is to maintain an effective and competitive market place for Shanghai’s banking industry and realize the members’ common interests. SBA has won recognitions from across the society—a 5A-grade (top grade) social organization, a model social organization in Shanghai and a national model organization for providing high-standard, elderly-people-friendly services. It is committed to building an appealing, trustworthy, influential and high-standard banking industry association commensurate to Shanghai’s aspiration to be a prominent international financial center.
