With the theme of “Side by Side for a Win-win Future”, the 20th Anniversary of Shanghai Banking Association was celebrated on December 26th. More than 200 people attended the event, including leaders of Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, representatives of relevant social organizations, leaders of SBA domestic-funded and foreign-funded members and those of the associated members.
Mr. Pan Yuehan, Chairman of Shanghai Banking Association and General Manager of Bank of China Shanghai Branch, pointed out that the past two decades from 1992-2012 witnessed a wide-ranging reform of Shanghai’s banking sector and at the same time, the constant growth and development of SBA. Shanghai Banking Association has since inception performedthe duties of “self-discipline, rights protection, coordination and service ”, and has focused on providing quality services for the members, the local banking industry, and society as a whole . SBA has worked hard to enhance self-discipline and rights protection within the sector, to improve coordination among different players, and to provide better services for the members. In doing so, SBA has displayed a “pragmatic, proficient, professional and proactive” image and gave full play to the role as a bridge among the various industrial players. Under the guidance of the local government and relevant financial regulatory authorities, SBA shall continue to work as a driving force for banking innovation and to push forward the transformation of the banking sector so as to ensure Shanghai banking industry a leading position nationwide in areas such as bank operation, management and service.
In order to push forward the scientific development of the local banking sector, to present the latest achievements made in bank management, service and innovation, and to recognize the outstanding performance of member institutions and their support for the association, SBA has set up the “Shanghai Banking Annual Awards” to honor achievements in four categories, namely contribution, development, innovation and service. Altogether 15 awards in these four categories were presented at the celebration of the 20th anniversary.
As the earliest self-disciplined banking association with the largest and most diversified membership in China, SBA shall take the 20th anniversary as a new starting point to work harder as a bridge among different industrial players so as to propel the further innovation and transformation of the local banking sector and thus making bigger contributions to the development of Shanghai into an international financial city.
